Michelle graduated from UW-La Crosse with 2 business degrees, in 1992 and 1994. In 1996, she started preparing tax returns under Quinn CPA and in 1998 entered into a partnership with her sister, Mary, as Fastax, LLC. Michelle and Mary dissolved their partnership in 2008, however, Michelle rented an office from her sister until she was able to find a new location. In 2015, Michelle moved into a location on Tomah’s north side near Walmart, but in November 2015, Michelle was able to purchase the perfect location on Tomah’s south side. So, a quick cleanup and remodel, Michelle is in her permanent location south of town, at the I90 interstate exchange, right next to the Mobile gas station on Gopher Rd.
Michelle has focused her client niche to include Retirement Solutions and retiring Baby Boomers. In today's world of retiring Baby Boomers, it is even MORE critical that we understand HOW retirement planning and tax preparation go hand-in-hand for a successful path to financial security.
Twenty–plus years in the tax field, running a small business in Tomah, opening a second office in Brookfield, residing in the A-1 Tax and Accounting business at 13660 W Capital Dr. have kept her very busy. Along with these activities, Michelle has bred and shown AKC English & French Bulldogs, along with various farm animals including rare breeds as Cotswold Sheep and Friesian Horses.
She currently raises Golden Doodles and Gypsy Vanner Horses with her husband, Kurt Rutlin, on their cranberry marsh and farm. They own multiple rental properties and recently purchased the old Holiday Lodge Property, which has been transformed into the Double Barrel Bar and Holiday Lodge Resort.
Michelle will continue to provide tax and retirement planning services to the greater Tomah area. She plans to be in the Brookfield office Monday and Tuesday, then Tomah Wednesday afternoon through Saturday Regular office hours through April 15, then by appointment only from April 16 to the end of the year.

Hi … I’m Kelly … and I would love to get to know you better and help you with your tax information. So, before you tell me about you … let me tell you about me.
I grew up in Tomah, WI. As a child growing up, I had dreams of being a veterinarian … but as I grew older, I realized I liked numbers and order. Before my introduction to Income taxes, I worked at a couple of retail stores (Pamida, if any of you recall the store). In 1991, I read an ad in a paper seeking students for an income tax course. There is a lot more to taxes than just numbers. After completing the course, I was hired by a local firm and have been preparing tax returns from 1992 to the present.
Over the years, I have completed thousands of hours of continuing educations to increase my tax knowledge and to be able to give my clients a very honest and complete tax return. I have prepared many different types of returns and am familiar with retired taxpayers, military taxpayers, and multiple state returns.
In late 2020, an opportunity presented itself and I had to make a life-changing decision. With the many changes going on around me, and my children grown, I decided to take a different new direction with my life and start to work for myself. I believe the move to Tomah Tax Station is the best option for me to be able to help my clients and to achieve my goals.
